Safety Alerts

  • Announcement from UMW Toyota Motor

Dishonest characters will find any means possible to make a quick buck from you. We urge our customers to be on high alert and not to fall prey to these scams that are on the rise.

There have been reports of e-mail circulation informing that customers have won a Toyota Lottery and require personal details like your bank account number to claim your prize money.

DO NOT respond to these messages. Toyota will never require you to give out information as such, and official Toyota contests or promotions will always be publicised in our website.

If you are unsure if such messages are legitimate, do not hesitate to confirm with us via our customer service FreePhone at 1800-8-TOYOTA(869682).

    Your Safety On The Road

Every other day, newspaper reports and emails from concerned friends warn of the latest road scams. These range from motorcyclists smashing car windows, to more deceptive set-ups that involve accomplices posing as the “good guys”.

Actual reports made at Toyota service centres tell us that these incidents are not isolated. Therefore, we urge our customers to be vigilant at all times. Here are some tips to be mindful of.

    1. If your car is hit from behind and you need to stop, try to slowly drive to a safe or crowded area like a police or petrol station.
    2. If you are involved in an accident or your car has broken down, call 24SEVEN Road Assist at 1800-888-247, the official Toyota roadside assistance service. They will bring your vehicle to the nearest Toyota service centre.
    3. Do not allow strangers to tamper with, or change vehicle parts.
    4. Be aware of your surroundings at all times, especially when you are entering and exiting your car.
    5. Park in bright, well-lit areas closer to mall entrances or security cameras.
    6. Look out for strange items on or near your car: pieces of paper on the windscreen, eggs on the windshield, etc. If something's not right, don't enter your car. Call a security guard immediately.
    7. Keep your car well-maintained. This will help you know if something is unusually wrong with it or it has been tampered with.
    8. Don't leave your valuables on your car seat or in plain sight, both when you're driving or parked.
    9. Lock your car doors at all times.
    10. Don't leave your children unattended in the car, especially with the air-conditioning on.

If you think you have been scammed, please bring your vehicle to a Toyota service centre for inspection. Also, it is best to make a police report to ensure that the authorities have been informed.

Remember, if your gut tells you that something doesn't feel right, listen to it. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
